I mean that's why I felt in love with Shaki, because she used to be so simple and so gorgeous at the same time, so natural and so artistic, she was defined by her music and her lyrics not by a sexy image. I know that sex and sexiness sell and I'm not against it, but Shakira used to be so unique and she had her own style, like Gabriel Garcia Marquez said. Now it seems that she does music only for money. Sell, sell , sell...don't forget about your true fans, Shak...we want to see YOU
She Wolf got one message - is so good to cheat and have sex and going wild (except Mon Amour and Gypsy - my favorite songs). I hope that the Spanish one would be more deeper and meaningful. We all know Shaki can do much better. It's not as if I don't like She Wolf, but it's not what I love at Shakira and I don't imagine myself listening to it 10 years from now, as I listen Donde estan los ladrones even it was released 12 years ago.
Absolutely agree, if you say you miss the real Shaki. The LN deal was a huge commercial success for her. Difficult to say whether her change was the reason for signing the contract or whether the contract is the reason of her change. Difficult to decide what is driven by her and what by external circumstances. No matter. She decided to go this way and a person with her intellectual skills is able to estimate the consequences. We are witnesses of the process of her total commercialization. It's not just a new image. We can observe a subtile strategy. Her manner of presenting herself differs noticeably between America and Europe. She adjusts her image to fulfill the alleged requirements of the respective local markets. And her real personality is faded out. She plays with taboos to catch attention. LN establishes a fee-based fan club to get the last bucks of the pocket money of 12 yo kids. Soon we'll be blessed with a perfume. And I would be not amazed if they announce a fashion label. This all serves sadly one aim - to earn as much as possible.
I understand that Shaki want to be so successful in US as in Europe or South America. Maybe this is more difficult for her because Latins have sometimes to struggle with prejudices and discrimination in US. But the sales of SW aren't so poor because it is a weak album. No, it is a good album but not really distinguishable from the current top sellers. And this is the reason for the disappointment. I distinguish between three kinds of music. At first music that annoys me. Then pretty good music that I like for a while. But it is nothing for the next years and therefore I'm not willing to pay for it. And at last the music I unconditionally like. SW belongs into the second category and I bought it only because it was made by Shaki.
I don't like the smoothed and optimized image of her. This is only a fake without soul. I miss the real Shaki. I mean the imperfect and human person who does what she likes. The artist who makes an artistic decision without listening to the guys with a master degree in business economics. This was always the secret of her success. And her deep humanity and honesty brought her closer to her fans.
If you want to get all, you probably get nothing.
